It is great to see a multicultural group of people peacefully protest against this hateful group - and they clearly have more gumption than the Democratic party, who instead shamed Maxine for speaking out.

The group had been shouting a slew of other slogans such as "black power" and 'Resist!'

The Oath Keepers is a group that advocates for former military and law enforcement to remember their oaths should the government come to confiscate their guns.

"You're not going to intimidate our queen, Maxine", the protesters can be heard chanting in the KCBS-TV video. No one was injured or arrested at the demonstration.

Calling Waters a "protest terrorist inciter", the Oath Keepers, publicized the planned gathering on Twitter and said they meant to "stand against terrorism, stand for freedom of speech and association, in support of ICE/Border Patrol as they enforce constitutional immigration laws". "The group is known to protest in military-style clothing while carrying various assault weapons", Waters' statement said.

Waters had asked her supporters not to engage with them.

She warned her supporters against being "baited" into counter-demonstrations or confrontations with the organization, which she said has a track record of "violent and provocative behavior".

But police at the protest site told the Los Angeles Times that the group had notified authorities that it no longer planned to hold the demonstration, in order to keep the peace.

While the lawmaker noted the Los Angeles Police Department would have officers on hand to ensure people's safety, police have not said whether any sort of investigation is underway.

Numerous counter-protesters claimed they were not there to be "baited into confrontations", the Los Angeles Times reported.

Oath Keepers had a visible presence in Ferguson, Missouri during the 2014 and 2015 unrest in the city - when members armed with semi-automatic rifles patrolled the streets.

Soon after the February Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, Oath Keepers controversial founder Elmer Rhoades called upon tens of thousands of the group's members to form militias to protect USA schools.
