Houston Methodist Hospital identified the doctor shot and killed Friday morning while riding a bike in the Texas Medical Center as Dr. Mark Hausknecht.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting who fled the scene on a bicycle. He was a longtime Houston Methodist-affiliated physician with almost four decades of medical experience, hospital officials said.

The wife of a Houston Methodist doctor who was gunned down Friday said she has had enough of gun violence following his death.

"Mark was a leader in the Houston Cardiovascular Associates and specialized in cardiovascular disease", said Houston Methodist, which added that Hausknecht was part of the DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center.

Jim McGrath, the spokesman for the Bush family, said Hausknecht had treated the former president for heart arrhythmia in 2000.

Hausknecht was going to work at Houston Methodist Hospital when he was shot, the hospital's CEO said in an email to staff.

"Mark was a fantastic cardiologist and a good man", Bush said in a statement. The alleged suspect fired at least twice, hitting the victim. We wish Mark's family and friends peace and prayers as they cope with their loss. Police described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male, about 30 years old, five-foot-10 with a slender build and clean shaven.

Police continue to search for the suspect, who was wearing a grey warm-up jacket, khaki shorts and a tan baseball cap, the USA Today reported. I will always be grateful for his exceptional, compassionate care.

'His patients appreciated his kind bedside manner and the extra time he took to answer their questions and fully explain their condition and treatment, ' Boom said in an email to employees on Friday. "To honor him - work hard, be responsible, patient, tolerant and compassionate".

Dr. Hausknecht and the shooter were seen on bicycles traveling north on Main Street at the Holcombe Boulevard intersection, police said. Former President George H.W. Bush offered his condolences in a statement.
