The 28-year old took just 18 innings to score 1000 ODI runs - three fewer than the record held jointly by five cricketers.

Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman became the fastest batsman to complete 1,000 runs in ODI cricket during the fifth match against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on Sunday.

Legendary West Indian batsman Viv Richards had first set the record of 21 innings way back in 1980, which was since equalled by the likes of Pietersen and De Kock, and more recently Babar Azam.

The innings also propelled Pakistan to their highest ever ODI total of 399/1, according report from the International Cricket Council (ICC) website.

As Zaman joins the exclusive double centurion club, a look at the men and women who have scored ODI double hundreds so far.

Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman also broke the record for most runs in a five-game bilateral series.

Earlier this week, Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistan batsman to hit a double century in One Day Internationals.

Soon after Pakistan's huge win against Zimbabwe in the second one-day global, former captain Ramiz Raja took to Twitter to express his desire for his county player to look for double-century in ODIs asking "why isn't a Pakistan batsman looking for a 200!".
