The earliest recording of David Bowie singing has been unearthed after 55 years in. the bread basket of a former bandmate from one of his earliest projects, The Konrads, according to The Guardian.

As reported by the Independent, the demo tape was discovered by the band's drummer and frontman David Hadfield in the 1990s and is now going on auction along with several pieces of Bowie-related memorabilia. The tape will be sold by Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows on Merseyside in September.

Recorded in a small studio in south London, a teenage Bowie "I Never Dreamed" was recorded alongside hsi first ever band The Konrads. When the band urged him to become the lead singer [VIDEO], a studio-recorded demo tape of the band was rejected by the record company Decca.

"Our agent, Eric Easton, who also managed the Rolling Stones, asked us to do a demo so he could try and get us an audition at Decca".

They made a decision to do some guitar instrumentals, along with an original song, for which they chose "I Never Dreamed", as reportedly the other songs were a little "weak". He found it when moving home, stashed in an old bread basket that had belonged to his grandfather along with a host of other material including booking forms, photographs, promotional sketches, letters and bills, in a loft above the garage. While the group didn't end up getting tremendously far in the music industry, the group is historically significant in that they recorded a demo with Bowie on lead vocals.

David Bowie's last release was 2016's Blackstar and would be his final album.

At that stage, Hadfield decided that Bowie was the best member of the band to offer the right interpretation and sing the song. "Decca initially turned us down, but when they eventually gave us an auction later that year, vocalist Roger Ferris was the lead voice and David sang backing harmonies".

The Konrads released two singles, one in 1965 and the other in 66, although both were recorded after Bowie had left the group.
