Fellow 3rd Rock actor Jim Beaver posted a tribute to Wendel on his Twitter page: "I've just heard from her daughter JC that my friend and colleague from 3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN, Elmarie Wendel, has died".

Elmarie Wendel, who played the Solomon family's landlord Mrs. Dubcek on "3rd Rock From the Sun", has died. Her daughter, actress J.C. Wendel, confirmed her mother's death on Instagram (see below). She joined the national touring company of Annie, which brought her to Los Angeles, and a successful transition into film and television.

On the '90s sitcom, Wendel's character was known for her delightfully gaudy attire and oversexed one-liners.

Elmarie's last TV role was Ruthie in an episode of TV Land's The Exes alongside former 3rd Rock co-star Kristen Johnston. Earlier credits include guest spots on Knight Rider, The Jeffersons, The Facts of Life, Murphy Brown, Seinfeld, Major Dad, Santa Barbara, Empty Nest, Weird Science and Murder, She Wrote. The series aired from 1996-2001 on NBC.

"She was raucous, funny, endearing, and terribly, terribly sweet", he wrote. "Goodnight, Mrs. Dubcek, wherever you are". Her most recent recurring role was on "George Lopez" from 2003-2007 as Gina.

Elmarie featured in a total of 96 of the NBC sitcom's 139 episodes, and was also known for her voice role as Aunt Grizelda in animated film The Lorax.

Wendel was born in a small farming community in Howard County, Iowa, raised in a family of five siblings, and spent a good portion of her childhood moving around with her parents who were singers and dancers.
