Neo-confederate Republican Corey Stewart gets laughed at by Tim Kaine and the entire audience at the #VASen debate after his embarrassing claim that Donald Trump "is standing up to the Russians".

Kaine and Stewart will face off on Saturday at the Virginia Bar Association summer meeting in Hot Springs. Tim Kaine of hurting Virginia's interests by reflexively opposing Trump's agenda.

Stewart is a former worldwide trade attorney and was an early supporter of Trump's presidential campaign.

Kaine said Stewart would blindly follow the president, particularly when it comes to the U.S.'s relationship with Russian Federation.

"We need a United States senator who will stand with President Trump", Steward told the audience.

Stewart minimized the security risk posed to the United States by Trump's cozy relationship with Vladimir Putin, saying the Russians "have been spying for years".

Kaine is an early favorite to win, and national attention and deep-pocketed outside groups are more focused on other Senate races.

Stewart's full embrace of Trump puts him at odds with many elected Virginia Republicans, who have tried to keep their distance from the president. Virginia's growing urban and suburban areas have made the state increasingly friendly to Democrats.

Stewart won the Republican nomination in June and was swiftly congratulated by Trump via Twitter.

Stewart, the controversial chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, was participating in a debate against incumbent Sen.

Stewart has promised a "vicious" campaign against Kaine.
