Canon brings 4K video to pocket superzoom

The PowerShot SX740 HS spans across a focal range equivalent to 24-960mm in contrast to a traditional 35mm lens together with a variable aperture of f/3.3 to f/6.9.

Canon has refreshed its PowerShot compact line with a new superzoom camera, the PowerShot SX740 HS. "Alongside the super zoom lens, the SX740 also comes with a 20-megapixels 1/2.3" BSI-CMOS sensor. Time-lapse footage can also be captured at a 4K resolution and, as is now often the case on 4K-enabled cameras, 8MP stills can also be extracted from 4K recordings. Shutter speeds range between 15 seconds and 1/3200 second.

There's a 3-inch tilting LCD display which can be bent to be used at any angle and can even face forward allowing users to capture self-portraits easily. The PowerShot SX740 HS also includes 5-axis stabilisation.

Other functional changes include a slightly narrower sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 3200 instead of 80 to 3200, revised flash range, a mode dial that now has a Food mode setting in place of the SX730's Creative Shot mode, the removal of Story Highlights from the rear 4-way rocker/control dial, a new Feature Assistant mode for beginners, and an improved Auto Lighting Optimizer which helps minimize blown-out areas in your images.
