Guardians Of The Galaxy: Disney Has No Plans To Rehire James Gunn

This comes after the outlet's report that Disney was considering meeting with Gunn to discuss his possible reinstatement.

Variety is reporting today that, despite the mass outcry and that frank open letter from core cast members like Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, Disney is unlikely to reinstate Gunn as director on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as his incendiary tweets from yesteryear "are not in line with the company's family-friendly image".

While some fans have recommended Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi or Infinity Wars' the Russo brothers to replace Gunn, the article notes they may be busy with other projects (ditto for Jon Favreau), so Disney is likely to look outside of Marvel for an A-lister to replace Gunn with the same "kind of offbeat sensibility to handle the comic-book franchise".

After Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn announced that the company had ended its business relationship with Gunn and cited the "offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed" as reason for his firing, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast wrote and signed a letter supporting Gunn and urging Disney to place him back in the director's seat for the third Guardians movie.

As for finding a replacement, Disney is reportedly not in any rush to find a new director for Guardians 3 and is willing to wait for the right filmmaker to come along. "Those tweets were so frightful and Disney has a different standard than other studios", the report quoted one source as saying.

It has also been previously reported that if a new director is brought on board, the script which Gunn recently turned into Marvel, may need to be tweaked, which could add to the delays as well.

'I don't see Disney re-hiring him, ' one insider explained.

It's an issue that has polarized Hollywood with many calling for James Gunn to be reinstated to the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise while others have applauded his sacking.

Gunn is considered to having been instrumental to the series' success.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to begin shooting, and no release date has been set.
