Future screening technology and therapeutics may also lower mortality rates, said the doctor.

"If we do not implement measures to reduce smoking behaviours in this population, lung cancer mortality will continue to increase throughout the world". For example cooking patterns in rural and villages where traditionally cooking methods are used and this leads to increase in smoke and lung cancer chances, now we are seeing a trend in India of slow increase in lung cancer cases amongst India women.

Despite Oceania being the only continent predicted to see a decrease in lung cancer mortality (calculated to fall from 17.8 in 2015 to 17.6 in 2030), it is still projected to have the highest lung cancer mortality rates in 2030, along with Europe. "Twenty-four of these countries belong to the high-income group, where the highest lung cancer and breast cancer ASMR are observed".

"By 2030, the lung cancer age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) is projected to be higher than the breast cancer ASMR in women in 26 of the 52 analyzed countries, adding 11 countries to the 15 that already reported this situation by 2010", the researchers wrote. If the patient comes with advanced cancer then we use combination treatment like chemotherapy-followed by surgery or sometimes if the patient comes with very advanced stages of lung cancer, not suitable for surgery we use the combination of Chemotherapy and medication and last stage that is stage 4 they mostly go for palliative care as they are not curable.

The study done on patients who underwent treatment at SGRH from March 2012 to June 2018, was released on Tuesday, a day before the World Lung Cancer Day.

The study was published August 1 in the journal Cancer Research.

The researchers based their predictions on the assumption that current trends will stay the same for the next 20 years.

Another limitation was the exclusion of Africa and other low-income countries from the analysis due to lack of data. Smoking is the biggest reason responsible for lung cancer; however, ironically some lung cancer patients are non-smokers.
