An eight-month-old baby boy's lifeless body has been found floating in the water near New York's Brooklyn Bridge.

A baby boy has died after being pulled from the water near South Street Seaport, police say. Campbell was visiting NY with his parents. There were no signs of trauma, and no sign of the child's parents in the area.

The approximately 8-month-old child, wearing only diapers, was discovered Sunday afternoon by a family visiting New York City from Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Diana Campbell initially spotted the infant floating by a pile of debris about 30 feet offshore, prompting her husband, Monte, to recover the body from the water's edge.

Diana Campbell, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, first noticed the baby around 4 p.m. Sunday. The child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. "And I was like, 'Come get the baby out of the water, '" she said.

Cops are investigating the 911 callers' claims, sources said.

It wasn't clear how long the baby had been in the water.

She took pictures and shot video at the scene and told the Times she hopes the images can help the police identify the baby.

Monte Campbell waded into the water and used a stick to assist him in reaching the baby, then did CPR until officers arrived, Campbell said.
