According to test results received by the health unit on Tuesday, mosquitoes collected from a trap located in Wyoming on August 1 tested positive for the virus. This follows last week's positive test result in Woodstock. In an outbreak in 2012, more than 1,000 people were infected and 36 people died across four North Texas counties. Standing water can be treated with EPA-approved larvicides to kill mosquitoes before they become adults.

West Nile Virus has made its second appearance in Lambton County this summer, says Lambton Public Health.

Wear long, loose and light-colored clothing.

Drain any standing water in your yard.

Clean your gutters and flush birdbaths or fountains once a week.

The first probable case of the virus in 2018 was reported in Allegheny County in late July.

Use effective insect repellent such as DEET or Picaridin.

The abatement district has increased treatments in those areas in an effort to prevent human cases. However, the majority of people infected with the virus do not get sick.
