A heat warning is still in effect for London, Windsor-Essex, and Chatham-Kent.

As of 8 a.m. ET Monday, long weekend heat warnings remained in place for all of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, most southern parts of Ontario and Quebec, including Toronto and Montreal, as well as certain parts of Labrador. "Overnight minimum temperatures will only fall to near 20°C, except 22 to 24 over some urban areas, providing little relief from the heat".

"During a heat warning members of the public are encouraged to visit family, friends and neighbours, especially isolated adults and seniors who are at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illness, to make sure they are cool and drinking plenty of fluids", she said.

Environment Canada says daytime temperatures of 31 C or higher are expected today with humidex values reaching near 40.

There are 11 cooling centres located across the city and hours vary.

In southern Ontario and Quebec, the humidex is also likely to hit the low 40s today, however, forecasters say cooler air is expected to move into parts of Ontario this evening, bringing an end to what has been a almost weeklong heat event.

Hasell also reminded people never to leave children or pets inside vehicles.
