Kawhi Leonard has finally spoken.

Leonard popped up in Toronto to take a picture with Masai Ujiri after the trade was done and talk to the Raptors brass about playing for the team, but still avoided offering any public statements as Ujiri held the trade press conference alone.

"San Antonio, I have been going back and forth the last few weeks trying to figure out the right things to say, and it comes down to two simple words: THANK YOU!" The diagnosis and treatment of that injury seemed to drive a wedge between Leonard and the Spurs organization that led him to suggest a change of teams would be appropriate.

Leonard singled out Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in the letter, saying "I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance".

Toronto acquired Leonard and guard Danny Green in a blockbuster trade on July 18 that sent DeMar DeRozan - the face of the Raptors franchise - emerging centre Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round draft pick to Texas.

The 2018-2019 regular season for the National Basketball Association will tip off October 16, with the Spurs regular season schedule due out this Friday. He was the Finals MVP in 2014 when the Spurs beat the Miami Heat in five games for the title.

THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the National Basketball Association.

"The best part about San Antonio, they do right by you", the Spurs forward said, according to Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant.

THANK YOU to the fans!

"It's cool to see all the kids excited to hang out with us, and I'm excited to hang out with them", White said.

While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career, I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio!
