Everton have wrapped up what proved to be a highly active transfer deadline day by confirming that both Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes have joined the club from Barcelona.

'It is important that the club want to fight for something, ' Mina told evertontv.

Manchester United had expected to sign Mina after submitting a fresh £35million bid for the Colombia defender earlier this week.

The Brazil winger, a free agent having allowed his contract with Ukraine's champions to expire at the end of last season, signed a four-year contract at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have paid around €2.25million (£1.7m) in a loan fee to sign Portugal midfielder Gomes - who has previously been linked with Arsenal this summer.

Mina had always been linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer with the club's purchases of non-EU players in Malcom, Arthur and Arturo Vidal filling their quote per La Liga's rules.

Gomes, who won the European Championships with Portugal in 2016, has found regular first-team football hard to come by at the Nou Camp since joining the Catalans in a big-money move from Valencia in 2016.

"Everton is historically the fourth most successful club in England", said Bernard.

Everton coach Marco Silva finally convinced Gomes to join and he has had his medical for the Premier League side in Barcelona.

"For me, it was really good to speak to him because I know how good he is and I feel motivated to work with him and to play for Everton, a great club".
