On the game's opening drive, Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley broke off a 39-yard run before Cleveland's defense settled down and forced a field goal.

Landry, who was traded to the Browns this offseason and signed a five-year, $75.5 million extension with the team, told the website that he talks with Beckham frequently and the New York Giants wide receiver "definitely" would be open to playing in Cleveland. He also carried the ball three times for 13 yards.

Replacing starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor late in the first quarter, Mayfield hit 11 of 20 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and converted two fourth-down plays with his feet. It was impressive to see Mayfield patiently roll through his progressions - eyes scanning the field - before finding the massive-bodied tight end near the back of the end zone. He finished his debut with a completion on a 54-yard slant and run to fellow rookie Antonio Callaway. Initially ruled an incompletion, officials overturned the call after replays showed Callaway stay in bounds with a brilliant, leaping grab.

While that was all well and good, Mayfield's showcase came after Taylor completed all of his pass attempts (5 for 5, 99 yards) in posting a flawless passer rating (158.3) and had the more impressive TD connection with Njoku. A few of those incompletions were throwaways and a handful were off the mark, but here's the bigger takeaway: Mayfield looked at home.

"I like that", Jackson said.

Yes, Mayfield hung in well in the pocket against the first National Football League pass rush he faced. "I really didn't get that nervous for this game, I have been preparing for this moment my whole life, I was just excited to get out there and show my team what I have".
