Transfer: Manchester United in talks to sign Chelsea defender

Now, it seems they have set their sights on Chelsea outcast Zouma.

Reportedly, Manchester United are desirous to sign him permanently, whereas the Toffees only want a loan deal.

Everton have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Kurt Zouma, according to L'Equipe.

Zouma subsequently missed almost one season of football before he made his return to the pitch.

Spending previous year on-loan with Sunderland, suffering relegation from the Championship, the Liverpool Echo reported last month that Browning would seek another loan move this season - but it now may be time to consider a permanent exit. Manchester United need a defensive upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones and Zouma is certainly that.

Zouma will become Marco Silva's seventh signing this summer.

But, the Manchester United boss has only been met with disappointment in his bid to sign a centre-back, the latest coming in the form of Diego Godin's reported rejection.

The 23-year-old would likely have a better chance of playing at Everton, who now have central defenders Mina, Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate on their books.

Mourinho was the Chelsea manager when Zouma arrived in 2014, and he seemingly has a lot of belief in the Frenchman, although it's hard to see how he will boost his options in the short-term.

The Toffees significantly bolstered their squad on transfer deadline day with the arrivals of Bernard, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina, but their business is not yet done, with a temporary move for Zouma in the pipeline.

However, he has less than 32 hours to make that happens as this summer transfer window shuts on Thursday, August 9, by 5pm.
