However, the Facebook augmented reality video chat games will offer Facebook another opportunity to make money, and as all of their revenue comes from ads, expect something down the road.

Despite the privacy scandal triggered by Cambridge Analytica, Facebook continues to be the main social media platform of internet users worldwide.

In addition to messaging, video chatting and now games, Messenger boasts a payments tool that allows you to send money to friends, a feature that translates messages in English or Spanish and the ability to add photos or videos to a Story, which disappears after 24 hours. "Account linking enables people to receive real-time updates in Facebook Messenger where people can keep track of their transaction data like account balances, receipts, and shipping updates", the statement said.

Dubbed "Don't Smile" and "Asteroids Attack", both are determined to make speaking with those closest to you more engaging then ever.

Facebook is launching two multiplayer games: There's "Don't Smile" (where the first person to smile has their face turned into a cartoon grin) and "Asteroids Attack" (where you perch a 3D spaceship on your nose and fly through asteroids in space).

The WSJ article stated that in order to introduce new services in Facebook Messenger, the firm is asking USA banks to share sensitive financial information of users, including account balances and payment card transactions. On Snapchat, you get to play an AR game on a snap and send that as a regular snap to your friends.

There's not much choice at the moment, Facebook only offers two games now. This feature allows up to six people to play the AR games at a time via video chat.

Other new games that will be released at a later date include Beach Bump where you pass a beach ball back and forth, plus Kitten Kraze which is a match cat game.

Users will need to have the latest version of Facebook Messenger to gain access to the new games.

People continue to discover video chat in Messenger, with over 17 billion video chats last year, twice as many as the year before.
