Andres Iniesta's departure from Barcelona has ensured that the club need to select a new group of captains, with Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto named amongst the newly announced list.

The Argentina worldwide takes over from Iniesta following his move to Vissel Kobe in the J League at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Gerard Piqué becomes one of the quartet of captains, third in line, just before the 10th anniversary of his debut for the first team.

Busquets was once said to be former manager Pep Guardiola's first name on the team-sheet during his tenure on the helm of the club.

Messi has skippered the Blaugrana on numerous occasions before having been the official vice-captain since 2015, but will now lead the Liga champions out on a permanent basis.

The Spain midfield maestro appeared to have symbolically handed over the captain's armband to Messi towards the end of his final Clasico appearance against Real Madrid in May.

It's the first time Pique has been named a vice-captain at the club.

It is the first time since the 2014/2015 season that all the club's four captains have come through the club's famous La Masia youth academy.

Barcelona have decided upon their captains for the season ahead after Andres Iniesta left at the start of the summer, and Javier Mascherano departed in January.
