Honda Civic gets new look, standard active safety features, Sport trim

As if you needed another reason to dig the Civic.

The core of the 2019 Civic sedan and coupe is still the well-received 10th generation vehicle, which is now America's number one retail-selling auto. There are tweaks to the front and rear bumpers, as well as the grille. Adding more tech to the Sport, the new trim receives the updated 7-inch Display Audio with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration and volume button.

There are more substantial updates, too.

A new Sport trim is wedged between base LX and popular EX grades and borrows much of its looks from the sporty Si versions, including a center-mounted trapezoidal exhaust finisher. A chrome accent on the lower rear bumper of the Sedan and new wheel designs for both models - including larger 18-inch rims on the Touring trim - round out the exterior styling updates on the returning trims. Other updates include a full-width front splitter, chrome side pod accents, updated halogen or LED headlights, new wheel designs, and a chrome accent on the rear bumper of the sedan.

A 2.0-liter engine connected to a CVT or six-speed manual transmission makes sure the Civic Sport drives as well as it looks.

The news certain to intrigue most buyers, though, involves the Civic's safety systems.

Honda has not yet released pricing information on the 2019 Civic, but the addition of Honda Sensing to every trim could see the price creep up slightly.

For India, Honda is expected to introduce the Civic facelift with a 1.8-litre, 140hp petrol engine, along with the 1.6-litre Earth Dreams diesel engine, making 120hp and 300Nm - the same engine that'll also be powering the CR-V. The 2019 Civic goes on sale later this year. Turning out attention to Honda Sensing, the suite includes Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keeping Assist System. Now, I have one less thing to complain about.
