Twitter suspends Alex Jones for violating its rules

Twitter joined other tech companies - including Apple, Facebook and YouTube - that have started to ban the right-wing conspiracy theorist. 50,000 users blocked Twitter's top advertisers. Instructions are in this thread.

On the show, which was published on Twitter's video-streaming service Periscope, Jones told supporters to get their "battle rifles" ready against antifa, the mainstream media, and as well as Chinese communist operatives, which he described using a disparaging term. In other words, they gave him special treatment, just as they did after CNN's report that about 20 of Jones' tweets violated their TOS.

Apple removed most of Jones's podcasts, AFP confirmed, after the action was initially reported by Buzzfeed.

"Last night's purge was a coordinated effort and had nothing to do with enforcing hate speech rule", Jones said on his talkshow.

Twitter spox confirms to me that the company has limited key functions on Alex Jones' account after determining he violated another one of network's policies. The company's CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey spent much of last week explaining why Jones had not violated the service's rules while also engaging in discussion about problems with the rules. Twitter instructed Jones to delete the tweets, which he has done.

Jones won't be able to tweet or retweet from his personal account for seven days, though he will be able to browse Twitter.

Even so, a seven-day suspension is a slap on the wrist when compared to punishments dished out to Jones by other companies.
