He also predicted that the competition US companies will face in the future will mostly be domestic due to his actions.

Trump made the assertion in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday - one in which he said that steel prices may be "a little more expensive" in the short term, but that they eventually would drop, ultimately protecting America's steel industry.

The president is engaged in trade disputes with several major economies, including China.

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks about trade at the Granite City Works steel coil warehouse in Granite City, Illinois, U.S., July 26, 2018. "The tariffs do not make business sense and will hurt the American companies and workers who rely on Turkish metals to meet their customers' needs", the council said in the statement. "European tariffs on certain American exports have prompted the motorcycle maker to shift production outside the USA, while it said higher steel and aluminum costs would boost its cost of US assembly by $55 million this year". While some steelmakers have expanded USA production in the wake of the tariffs, other US manufacturers remain heavily dependent on imported metals. "Other Countries should not be allowed to come in and steal the wealth of our great United States of America".

But many have speculated that the affects could cause significant harm to USA industries.
