We should note that as Designing Women is now being designated as a "revival" and not a "reboot", it's more likely than not that the show's surviving original stars will be involved in some capacity.

According to TVLine, original series creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is behind the updated series. As soon as development on the reboot is completed, the show will be made available by networks to snatch up.

The series originally ran from September 29, 1986 and ran for seven seasons, ending on May 24, 1993. Their associates are Mary Jo Shively (Annie Potts), a recent divorcee, and officer manager Charlene Frazier (Jean Smart), whose sweetness is matched only by her naivete. Meshach Taylor played assistant Anthony Bouvier. It's unclear, though, if any of the original, living cast members (Carter died in 2010, while Taylor passed away in 2014) will return for cameos. Smart departed alongside Burke and the pair were replaced in Season 6 by Newhart's Julia Duffy and Saturday Night Live's Jan Hooks.

Deadline has reached out to Sony TV for comment.
