At this time, Franklin's exact condition remains unknown, but she's reportedly in hospice care surrounded by her loved ones.

"I am so saddened to report that the Queen of Soul and my good friend, Aretha Franklin is gravely ill", the tweet read.

In the interview with People magazine he went on to say that while the 76-year-old star "is sick", the family "believe she'll pull through it". "We believe she'll pull through it, she believes she will pull through it, and that's the important thing".

Various sources have described Franklin as being seriously ill, and she recently cancelled shows due to ill health.

Dubbed the Queen of Soul, she announced her partial retirement a year ago, saying she would release one last album and perform at "some select things".

Her last performance was on November 2, 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NY.

Aretha's publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told Associated Press that the 76-year-old has been visited by family and friends including Stevie Wonder, her ex-husband, actor Glynn Turman and U.S. activist Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Beyonce, who's now touring with her husband Jay-Z for the On The Run II tour stopped their show the other night in Aretha's hometown of Detroit and dedicated their performance to her. Franklin recorded a version of Wonder's song Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do) in 1973.
