The multiple Grammy victor cemented her place in U.S. music history with a powerful, bell-clear voice that stretched over four octaves.

Franklin died at 9:50 a.m.at her home in Detroit, surrounded by family and friends, according to a statement on behalf of Franklin's family from her longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn.

'We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin's family and friends, ' Jessica Santostefano, Fox News Media Desk Vice President, said in a statement.

Aretha was known for major hits such as Respect and I Say A Little Prayer, and had more than 20 USA number ones over the course of her career.

Franklin's popularity would fade but she had a revival in the mid-1980s with songs such as Freeway of Love, a duet with George Michael named I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me), Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves, Who's Zoomin' Who? and a cover of the Rolling Stones' Jumpin' Jack Flash.

'In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade-our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. "As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this hard time".

Civil rights leader and Congressman John Lewis said what made Franklin so great was "her capacity to live what she sang".

Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 1987 - a year before the Beatles were inducted.

However, upon review of the photo in question of LaBelle, EW was unable to find any instance of her and Aretha Franklin performing or appearing together on stage at the "Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House" special hosted by President Obama in 2014, which aired on PBS.

Franklin's music also helped serve as a springboard for a number of young guitarists who later became legends themselves.

Trump posted a tweet that concluded: "She will be missed!" "She was elegant, graceful, and utterly uncompromising in her artistry", the former first couple said.

'May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. I accept that "Day Dreaming" may feel particularly resonant today because it was never a cultural anthem on the level of others among her long list of charting hits. As Franklin put it in her autobiography, she "Aretha-ized" the music.

"Salute to the Queen", he wrote on Twitter. Her father was a church minister and her mother a prolific pianist and gospel singer. Other famous hits from this period include "Ain't No Way", "I Say A Little Prayer" and "Think".

"Yeah, I mean, you always have to remember it is Otis Redding's song, right". Her music career declined in the 70s when funk music became the latest sensation.

"Throughout her extraordinary life and career, she earned the love - and yes, the respect - of millions of people, not just for herself and for women everywhere, but for the city she loved so dearly and called home", Duggan said in a statement. She was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

In February of 2017, Franklin announced that she would stop touring, but she continued to book concerts. Her son is named after her father.
