While Akshay's film earned Rs 25.25 crore, John's film is not far away with Rs 20.52 crore collection on day one. Here are the box office records broken by "Gold" and "Satyameva Jayate".

While Satyameva Jayate and Gold are both big banner films and possess the potential to recover their low earnings during the weekend, the release of Sonakshi Sinha starrer Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi, the sequel to 2012 sleeper hit Happy Bhag Jayegi, on 24 August could impact domestic collections of Gold and Satyameva Jayate, since fresh releases are generally crowd pullers. "India biz", Adarsh tweeted.

Although collections of Satyameva Jayate were lower than Gold, footfalls for the former were lower by just about 5 per cent as compared to Kagti's film. Both the films released on Independence Day.

Take a look at Satyameva Jayate's box office collection here. While Akshay's "Gold" got 3,050 screens In India, John's action drama is showing on 2,500 screens.

It was a magnum collision at the box office this year, as Gold locked horns with the other Independence Day release, John Abraham-starrer Satyameva Jayate, which also opened to a phenomenal response at the box office.

Talking about the clash with Gold, John said earlier, "I think there is enough space for two big films on a holiday". Given the rate at which the film is faring at the box office now, it should reach the break even point by Saturday or at max Sunday, and the overflows for distributors will start coming in from Sunday or at max Monday.
