Android Messages gets dark mode: here’s how to enable it

As with the new YouTube dark mode, Android Messages users can eliminate the bright white background, instead switching to a darker interface that is easier on the eyes over longer periods of time. The latest Android Messages update (version 3.5) also includes a revamped interface that has Google's Material Theme elements as well as Google Sans font.

Users on Reddit confirm that a slow rollout update to Android Messages is happening. It would be nice if those white changes were accompanied by dark modes, like with the new Android Messages update. Are you happy to see dark mode arrive? Once enable, the app's background becomes a dark grey color; the text box and message backgrounds are lighter shades of grey. There is also a new "Start chat" button on the bottom right of the screen, which effectively replaces the "+" button in the previous versions of the app. Colors remain on avatars and the new message icon.

Android Messages for web is here. Much like WhatsApp for web, Messages for web lets you pair your computer to your phone, so you can send and receive SMS from either device.

The update is heading out today, so if you see a notification for it in Google Play, make sure you try it out.
