Roma President Amusingly Responds To Napoli Claim Of Liverpool Collusion

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has made an extraordinary claim that both AS Roma and Liverpool F.C have the same owners, which would be illegal under UEFA rules.

In discussion with La Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis alleged that Roma owner James Pallotta and his Liverpool counterpart, John Henry, have been complicit in the past. "And if that is true, with a shared ownership they could not both compete in the Champions League". "If he finds that little bird again, he'll find out we also own Barca and Bayern". When Liverpool and Roma met in last season's Champions League semi-final, it was dubbed by the Italian media as the "Boston Derby".

Roma and Liverpool have been involved in two massive transfer deals over the a year ago with Mo Salah and Alisson heading from the Italian capital to Anfield and that has clearly angered De Laurentiis.

"For example, I would never have sold Alisson even for €100 million", he continued.

"I really can not decipher it", De Laurentiis said.

It took Liverpool time to get a deal for Alisson over the line as Roma felt they had been ripped off when Salah moved to Anfield for £36m ($46m) in the summer of 2017. A year later, Pallotta became the biggest shareholder and replaced DiBenedetto as Roma chairman. But then I understood that he would go to Liverpool. Perhaps we could recommend that he speak more with nightingales, who chirp melodies instead of nonsense because the little bird he spoke to told him nonsense. But I Partenopei have since appointed a legendary coach in Carlo Ancelotti, who has surprised their president by accepting their offer to return to Italy.
