Buffalo Bills quarterback A.J. McCarron suffered what was believed to be a fractured collarbone during Friday night's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, but the team is not yet ruling him out for the start of the season.

McCarron started the game and completed 3 of 6 passes for 12 yards.

The Buffalo Bills have had a quarterback controversy brewing throughout the NFL offseason with the team bringing in veteran AJ McCarron and selecting Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Allen's role with the Bills could expand regardless of how he plays in the final two preseason tune-ups. He completed nine of 19 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in the team's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. "He's always looking at our situation and what we may need to do, not only in the long term, but in the short term in this case so we'll see". He spent four seasons with Cincinnati, playing in 11 games and starting three as Andy Dalton's backup. "We saw that in college", McDermott said. "If he ends up winning (the quarterback competition), we'll have as good a chance as if any of those other guys win". Allen ran the 2-minute offense effectively, leading to a field goal and a 10-7 halftime lead.

"It's a continuing struggle for quarterbacks when you feel pressure breaking down in the pocket and not trying to get out too fast and knowing when the right time is", Allen said.

"Brandon and I have spoken about it", he said. "I think the guys appreciate that".
