Cruise Passenger's Unexpected Detour: 10 Hours in Ocean

The BBC reports that she told a local TV station that she'd been in the sea for about 10 hours when she was found.

She was pulled from the water late Sunday morning by the Croatian Coast Guard and she was completely exhausted.

Speaking to Croatian news channel HRT after stepping off the coastguard patrol boat the Cavtat, she added: "I was in the water for 10 hours, so these wonderful guys rescued me". "I am very lucky to be alive".

No explanation was provided on how she fell overboard.

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said: "We are pleased to advise that the guest was found alive, is now in stable condition and has been taken ashore in Croatia for further treatment".

The woman fell from the Norwegian Star ship shortly before midnight, sparking a huge search.


The circumstances of the incident are being investigated and the British embassy in Croatia was informed. The vessel was coming towards the end of the voyage and was sailing back to its home port when the woman fell overboard. the ship is scheduled to arrive back in Venice on August 19.

"We were extremely happy for saving a human life", he said.

The woman was taken to a hospital in the town of Pula and is out of danger. "The Coast Guard was notified and a search and rescue operation ensued", a spokesperson for Norwegian said in a statement.

It said: "We are pleased to advise that the guest was found alive, is now in stable condition, and has been taken ashore in Croatia for further treatment".

The woman was found and saved some ten hours later.
