José Mourinho said he could not give an honest assessment of his team's performance after Manchester United slumped to a shambolic 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

We made incredible mistakes in some crucial moments.

Manchester United manger José Mourinho has hit out at Manchester City over the new documentary charting their 2017/18 Premier League title winning season, claiming that his rivals "can't buy class".

United have conceded four goals in their opening two games of the season - it took them nine to let in that many last season. I think we lived an incredible season last season, there were cameras.

Manchester United fans have raised questions over Jose Mourinho's transfer activity of late, with a distinct lack of marquee signings being the main cause of concern, but surely a GoFundMe page to raise millions is a little too far.

"The tempo of the game was very good and I must admit, even if we hadn't got the result, I would have been really delighted with the way our team played the game and the levels that we got to, to try and get a result".

The United boss told Sky Sports: "When I speak about individual performances and I'm critical you just don't accept it and the press the pundits they are very critical with me when I go in that direction so please don't ask me to go in that direction because it's not good for me". My reaction is if you are a rich club you can buy top players, but you cannot buy class. "It was a special day for them and us". We did it for ourselves. "I don't want to talk for other people, I think you should ask him".

"I don't agree with Jose in terms of being disrespectful to them". The Iranian worldwide was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season and enjoyed an impressive World Cup for Team Melli.

"It is a club trying to grow, trying to win titles. Mistakes that killed us", Mourinho said.

Mourinho made headlines last season and over the summer by speaking out about what he saw as shortcomings from his players, notably Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw.

"But it's Jose opinion, other guys are going to say we like [it], another guy says, "No".

"That is true, you can not buy class".
