Should Liverpool's penalty against Crystal Palace have stood?

"We've got to try to win everything". I saw that in the warm-up from [Wayne] Hennessey practising and thought, wow, this is going to be really hard. It's cause for anger and disappointment. "And now Ive seen the image after the game, for me it was clear that it was not a penalty".

"It's probably the first time at the start of the season that I've thought they have a genuine chance of winning the league". Gomez, who has played primarily as a fullback since making the move to Anfield under former boss Brendan Rodgers, looked solid throughout pre-season playing in a central role and while he's unlikely to shift Lovren out of his starting spot when the Croatian is fit, he's sure to challenge for a place in the match-day squad over the coming months. He is trying to defend.

"We are not a team who will cry over that penalty, we just carry on". "I don't want penalties for my team in that way".

"It was not a brilliant performance tonight, both full-backs can play perhaps 70 per cent or 80 per cent better, but I like the two goals we scored and I'm very happy with the result", he added. If that's a penalty the game has changed beyond all recognition.

Roberto Firmino's pass found Salah just inside the Palace area and when Sakho caught him with an out-stretched leg, the Egyptian's slightly delayed tumble didn't dissuade Oliver from giving the penalty.

That was to be the hosts' final foray forward with 11 men on the pitch, however.

But Van Dijk, who was named man of the match, was delighted to keep another clean sheet before praising his side's professionalism.

Salah didn't tire despite his prodigious work-rate and it was his blistering break that induced the lunge from Wan-Bissaka which triggered his red card.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah handed Liverpool a 2-1 win the last time they visited Crystal Palace in the league in March 2018.

"In these moments [the closing stages of the game] the fuel is really low and maybe the players need a bit of help from an angry manager - "run or I will kill you" - and they did that with a fantastic counterattack".
