But first, we have to see her origin story. Larson dons the iconic costume on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, which was unveiled Wednesday.

That means Captain Marvel, who made her comic debut in 1968, will likely come to the aid of mankind helping the supes put an end to Josh Brolin's evil destroyer Thanos. But what makes her special is just how human she is. In fact, if you stuck around for the post-credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War, you saw Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) send Captain Marvel a message via an old-school pager.

Larson will play the titular badass in her upcoming standalone film, the first in the MCU to be headlined by a female superhero.

With Marvel the next Marvel movie due to land in cinemas on 8 March 2019, it makes sense to start to hype train - and we wouldn't be surprised if we got a trailer before the end of September. With Kevin Feige saying the film takes cues from '90s action movies like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, that sounds right to us.

As for the Skrulls, they're a shape-shifting alien race who have caused all sorts of havoc in the comics - including replacing most of earth's heroes with Skrull duplicates in Secret Invasion, which has always been one of the popular fan theories about what plot Avengers 4 might follow.

"She can't help but be herself", the actress told the magazine. We're excited to see where the MCU and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck go with this one, and some new photos released today give us a decent idea. The twist in the tale here is Brie Larson or Carol Danvers in the film already has her powers in place at the beginning of the film. And she's got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls - the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more unsafe by their shape-shifting abilities.

Captain Marvel follows an Air Force pilot named Carol Danvers who has turned space cop in an elite unit called Starforce on the Kree planet of Hala.

As we all know, Captain Marvel is the first Marvel Studios project to be fronted by a female superhero. The film will also see the return of Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou, who also will be reprising their roles as Ronan and Korath.

Captain Marvel, the movie, will be set in the 90s, before the MCU as we know it took off. Carol Danvers, after being fused with Kree DNA and given superpowers in an accident, is chosen to become a member of Starforce, a Kree military team.
