Alan Wake could be getting a TV show adaptation

Peter Calloway is now signed on to be the showrunner and writer of the series while Remedy's own Sam Lake is pegged to be an executive producer. Regardless of when it arrives (assuming it's picked up), having Sam Lake so intrinsically tied to the series gives me hope that this could turn out to be a great video game adaptation, unlike numerous others that we've seen in TV and film over the years.

As for what fans can expect from this series, Lake told Variety that Alan Wake will still be central to the series' story but he's also planning to focus on numerous surrounding characters within the world. "That was Sam's vision". It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of U.S. television. Sam is a huge part of this.

Harlan stopped short of talking specifics on the Alan Wake TV show's plot or how it would relate to the existing games or now non-existent sequel. "We plan to work closely with Sam on [this] show".

It's still extremely early days, with Contradiction planning to shop the show around next month, but some studios have already shown interest, apparently. However, Lake declined to comment on whether the show's story will be part of the official Alan Wake universe.

"I think it's important to embrace those characters and to bring Alan Wake to where he was [in the video game, ]" said Harlan. "We can't start the show off where he is fully functioning, running through the forest, taking down lumberjacks". Developer Remedy Entertainment eventually created a standalone DLC for the game two years later called American Nightmare, and a sequel was in the works at some point, though it was canceled and work was moved to Quantum Break. "We'll be expanding the lore of this insane and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did". "In a story like Alan Wake, a story filled with mystery and questions, answering this one would be a spoiler", Lake said.
