Deadline reports that Shane West has been tapped to play a new character named Eduardo Dorrance in Season 5. Eduardo will arrive in Gotham City with a team of elite soldiers, seemingly intending to help pull the city out of its state of no-man's-land lawlessness.

Precious baby Batman prequel Gotham won't kick off its fifth and final season until 2019, but that doesn't mean we can't factually report updates/wildly speculate with nearly irresponsible abandon in the meantime. However, as Gordon soon finds out, Durrance has his own wicked plans for Gotham.

In the comics, Edmund (not "Eduardo") Dorrance is the infamous villain King Snake, who's the father of super villain Bane.

With that, it's more than likely that West is playing a close relative of Bane or-in beautifully nonsensical Gotham fashion-the masked bat-breaker himself. It would make sense for Gotham to go out with a bang, bringing in iconic character (s) from the comic book franchise for its last season.

Shane West most recently starred in The CW's Nikita and ER. The actor, whose feature credits include The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and A Walk to Remember, is repped by Paradigm and Management 360.

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth.
