Australian superstar Olivia Newton-John has revealed she is again battling cancer, her third diagnosis in three decades, during an interview broadcast on Sunday night.

The four-time Grammy victor, who will turn 70 on September 26, told Australian news program "Sunday Night" doctors found a tumor in her lower back in 2017.

'I think it was really prompted by the fact that they were going to do a TV movie about me and I didn't know what they were going to say, ' she said.

The English-Australian singer and actress said she was using cannabis oil from plants grown by her husband in California, where the couple live. She has undergone radiation and has cut sugar out of her diet as part of her treatment plan. She called on Australia to legalise medical marijuana.

The entertainer was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, which she beat after undergoing a partial mastectomy.

Newton-John was diagnosed for a second time in 2013, a new breast cancer which had spread to her shoulder, forcing her to postpone a tour of the U.S. and Canada.

"In California it's legal to grow a certain amount of plants for your own medicinal purposes".

Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John has accomplished a lot in her lifetime, and that includes beating cancer twice. "A lot of cannabis, my husband [John Easterling] grows for me", she explained on the show.

She said she was "lucky" to live in the state and hoped that Australia, where she spent most of her childhood, would change its laws. "And they help with pain, they help with sleep".

Olivia revealed she was involved in a minor auto accident five years ago which led to the discovery of a lump on her back, and whilst she originally thought it was caused by the strain of her seatbelt during the collision, subsequent scans revealed the lump was actually the return of breast cancer. I have all the animals that I adore. "I have nothing, really, to complain about". "There are moments. I'm human". "My husband's... always there to support me, and I believe I will win over it and that's my goal". She spoke to Karl Stefanovic of her fears for her health, telling him: "Of course it's scary, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't scary but I intend to be healthy".

As Olivia, who is the mother of 32-year-old model Chloe Lattanzi, prepares to celebrate her 70th birthday this month, she revealed how grateful she is for her life.
