Lazar Markovic demoted to training with Under-23 squad

Markovic has made just 34 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool since 2014 and has spent time on loan at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull and Anderlecht.

The Serbian worldwide has not made a first team appearance at Anfield for over three years after managing 34 appearances and 3 goals in his only season of action for the Reds.

James Pearce writes that Markovic has been demoted to the U23s and took part in a behind closed doors game against Crewe Alexandra.

At only 24-years-old there is still time for him to have a productive career but any future suitor will be cautious of his attitude from his time on Merseyside.

However, in the last minutes of the transfer window, the move fell through after Markovic failed to agree personal terms.

Markovic will be eager to turn heads in the opportunities he does get to impress for Liverpool's Under-23s.

And during this worldwide break, it seems his Liverpool career took yet another blow.

The Liverpool Echo reported that whilst most Reds who weren't called up for global duty were given the week off, the 24-year-old was sent to train with Neil Critchley at the academy.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the first-team players who have not been called up for worldwide duty were given seven days off, but Markovic instead trained with the Under-23s at the academy in Kirkby.

Another sign that Markovic has no chance of convincing Klopp to give him a chance in the first-team.

And he has since featured for Neil Critchley's Under-23s in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Crewe while other senior players had the week off. They had Markovic with them and he was a class above.

"It was a great experience and the players can really see the benefit of it".
