In a statement, Mr Kelly said: "The idea I ever called the president an idiot is not true, in fact it's exactly the opposite". It also doesn't appear that the essay revealed any classified information, which would be a crucial bar to clear before a leak investigation could be considered.

" 'Dowd knew he could not bring himself to say to the president, you're a [expletive] liar.' And that's how you end the book", Colbert said. Both men are accused in the book of effectively removing things from Trump's desk to prevent him from taking certain actions.

Deutsche Bank was under investigation by the Justice Department for both its role in a " mirror trading " scheme with Russian oligarchs that allowed them to launder cash out of Russia in the face of U.S. sanctions, and for its mortgage practices amid the financial crisis, which regulators sought a $14 billion fine for. "We don't take it like others - like China", Trump is quoted as saying during the July 19 situation room meeting.

Any book is going to be "selective", and whether the book is "misleading" is certainly debatable, though someone who worked inside the White House is hardly an objective observer.

This, during a conversation on Afghanistan, during which Trump also said, according to Woodward, that Modi told him the USA had "gotten nothing out of Afghanistan".

It appeared to be another instance of the president versus the administration, as Trump proceeded on one track while the agencies largely moved on another.

The White House has described "Fear" as "nothing more than fabricated stories". Neither of them says specific details or quotes offered by Woodward are wrong, mind you; they only say the overall picture is flawed.

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump told supporters that he would eliminate the federal debt during his eight years in office.

Before he left, though, he had an oversized role in the White House, with Trump at one point telling Porter that he should report to him directly and not to then-Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. On Monday, it was ranked as the top-selling book on Amazon.

"Dems can't stand losing". But Trump's attacks may have backfired after the Woodward's publisher said Monday it had reprinted his book an astounding six times before it's even gone on sale to the public. "I'll write the real book!"

"If Gen. [James] Mattis had an issue with my father he would say it to his face", he said of the defense secretary, who, according to the expose, compared the president to a "fifth- or sixth-grader".

In the book, Woodward cited an alleged phone conversation between Trump and Mattis in which Trump went into an expletive-laden rant against Assad and told Mattis to have him killed.
