Announced via Twitter, Nintendo confirmed that their paid Nintendo Switch Online Service will be launching next week and that they will be revealing much more at tomorrow's 35-minute Nintendo Direct that will focus on upcoming Switch and 3DS titles.

Here is a screenshot of the original tweet in question.

Additionally, players will be able to sign-up for a seven-day free trial of the service on launch day. Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus both cost $59.99 for a year-long subscription, while Nintendo Switch Online is available for $19.99 per year for an individual or $34.99 for families.

The Nintendo Switch Online service will let subscribers play online multiplayer games such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 online. The information on Switch Online, however, still refers to voice chat only in reference to the app, meaning Nintendo might stick with this asinine idea in spite of the better options.

It may well be the last Direct of the year, so if it is then it will certainly also feature Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo Switch Online pricing plans in Canada will start at $4.99 per month.
