Celtics' Gordon Hayward states he's 'basically 100 percent'

The Boston Celtics could be in store for a fantastic season in 2018-2019, as Brad Stevens' team boasts impressive depth and talent when factoring in the return of both Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward from season-ending injuries.

Gordon Hayward is playing 5-on-5 and believes he's fully recovered from the broken ankle that derailed his Celtics debut before it started a year ago.

Speaking at the new practice facility named for Red Auerbach, Hayward said he celebrated each bit of progress - the walking boot coming off, or shooting baskets standing up, instead of sitting in a chair.

He expressed how excited he was to finally get back on the court for the Celtics next season, stating that he's "basically 100 percent".

"The hardest part of the whole process has been the mental challenge", Hayward said Thursday, reporting that he is 100 percent healthy and preparing to be on the court for the October 16 opener against the Philadelphia 76ers. "There's certain things that I think are going to take time, even if I was 100 percent healthy".

"I'm trying to figure those things out".

"The last step for me, as far as from a physical standpoint, is just the little explosion, that little last juice [and] bounce that you get", he said. It is therapeutic to see the green jerseys on a television after such a long time without them.

It's going to take some time for Gordon Hayward to shake off the rust that comes with missing all but five minutes of last season.

Hayward has documented his injury rehab process and workouts via social media and said earlier this summer on his web site that he hoped to be participating in full-court, 5-on-5 workouts by late July. "It's been so much fun to be able to play again and play with my teammates". Hayward says he plans to fully utilize the next month to get back into game shape. "But it feels pretty good".

The Celtics kick off training camp September 26 and will play four preseason games before opening the season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers. I'm not 100 percent as far as basketball-wise, just because I haven't played in a year.
