The bulk of load will be carried by the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone XR, in spite of the fact that its pre-orders will kick off on October 19 and shipments will begin on October 26, giving it roughly two months to deliver on the expectations of analysts.

When Apple released the iPhone X past year, it was widely considered the best smartphone the company had ever made, marking a major step forward with features like Face ID and a high-end camera to rival the Huawei P20 Pro and the Google Pixel 2.

Technically speaking, those headlines might be correct, but what Apple has managed to pull off in the space of one year is increase the price of its normal iPhone, and have everyone suddenly describe it as cheap.

With these changes astir, now might be the ideal time to pick up a discontinued iPhone before it falls out of circulation, especially if you're after a model with a headphone jack. The iPhone 7 now starts at £449/$449, and the 7 Plus at £569/$569.

The iPhone XR will also be available in a variety of finishes - white, black, blue, coral, yellow, and (Product) Red - and 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB capacities, starting at $749. The XS comes with a better chip under the hood and is more water-resistant, but for most people the differences will feel incremental.

Apple is slowly evolving its smartwatch into a medical device.

Those reasons? The fact that Apple has likely put less RAM in to the iPhone XR compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max, and the screen resolution is likely going to be less, too.

Both of these factors might explain Apple's thinking.
