Everton forward Richarlison has revealed he nearly quit football.

He had already converted a penalty kick and assisted on two goals when he took on defender Bryan Tamacas in the 44th minute of Brazil's 5-0 rout of El Salvador on Tuesday night.

Phillipe Coutinho made it 3-0 before the Everton attacker grabbed another after the break, pouncing onto a loose ball to rifle home a low shot from inside the box.

In an interview with AS, the 21-year-old gave an insight into his humble upbringing in Brazil, and said: "I had to live in my uncle's house because it was closer to where I trained and I didn't have money for the bus".

Argentina and Colombia on the hand drew 0-0 in another friendly in New Jersey on the same day. "Now it's a matter of going back to my club [Everton] and working as hard as I can so that I can have more opportunities with the national team". Neymar's corner kick in the 90th minute was headed in by Marquinhos.

Brazil next plays Saudi Arabia on October 12 ahead of facing Argentina on October 16, in friendly matches.

Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina made a fine diving save to tip an Exequiel Palacios shot over the bar after six minutes while his Argentine counterpart Franco Armani was the busier of the two in the second half but neither side looked like breaking the deadlock. "I think it has to end", he said, according to Globo Esporte. Today several of them showed they will be giving us something to shout about (in the future)'.

Brazil also beat the United States 2-0 last week in a positive response to their World Cup disappointment over the summer.
