Earlier, the former premier, his daughter and son-in-law were released from Adiala Jail on parole, hours after Nawaz's ailing wife Begum Kulsoom passed away at a hospital in London on Tuesday.

Shehbaz Sharif will attend the funeral prayers of his sister-in-law to take place at the Regent's Park mosque in central London on Thursday before taking back her body to Pakistan, where her funeral prayer will also be offered in Lahore on Friday.

Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) M Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, have been released on parole to attend Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral. The former CM himself drafted the parole plea to seek five days release of the three prisoners but it was allowed for 12 hours as per rules.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of the former first lady Kulsoom Nawaz including former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, former finance minister Ishaq Dar, former Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar, former federal minister Berjees Tahir, former AJK prime minister Chaudhary Abdul Majeed, PTI London President Barrister Waheed Miah and representatives of religious and political parties attended the funeral.

A provincial Home Department spokesperson later said that the parole of the trio was extended by three days.

"The extension will be in effect from midnight and will expire on Saturday night".

Heavy contingent of police has been deployed at the Jati Umra to provide security to the Sharif family.

Shehbaz Sharif along with Begum Kulsoom's daughter Asma, grandson Zayd Hussain Sharif and 11 other family members accompanied the body to Lahore.

Nawaz Sharif's sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz won't be attending the burial ceremony of her mother in Pakistan owing to legal complications. She was suffering from cancer.

PML-N leaders and family members have been arriving at their residence to extend condolences.

Kulsoom will be laid to rest on Friday. Her funeral prayers will be held at the Sharif Medical City Ground in Lahore at 5 p.m.

Maryam Nawaz also saw her grandmother and was seen weeping at most of the occasions as the relatives came to condole the death of her mother.

"I am deeply saddened", she told Geo News.
