Mourners line up during the public viewing before the funeral of Botham Shem Jean at the Greenville Avenue Church of Christ on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in Richardson, Texas.

Officer Amber Guyger, who shot him, said she mistook his apartment for her own and thought he was an intruder.

Jean, who grew up on St. Lucia, attended college at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, so he could remain within a religious community while getting his education.

An arrest affidavit released Monday says Guyger's apartment is directly below Jean's at the South Side Flats, 1210 South Lamar.

Guyger was not arrested until three days after Jean was killed, leaving many wondering what took so long. The apartments are "in most ways identical or extremely similar to the exterior surroundings, structure, and description of each other", the document says.

The news of Guyger's arrest broke on the evening of September 9, 2018 after two days of confusion about whether Guyger, 30, would face charges in the freakish shooting death of Botham Shem Jean, a Saint Lucian man who moved to America to attend a Christian college and later got a job in risk assessment for a prominent company in Dallas. "I can not believe that my boy is not here", said Bertram Jean, Botham's father.

"Botham said 'Dad, I want to be baptized".

To which protesters announced, "Botham Jean!". Bush said he learned as much from Jean as he taught him over the course of their friendship.

Botham Shem Jean got his first name from a British cricket player, his uncle said, and his second from the Bible, after a son of Noah.

In the arrest affidavit, Guyger also said she was able to enter Jean's apartment because the door was slightly ajar, and claimed she fired at Jean after he ignored her "verbal commands".

However, residents usually know their apartment number without having to check first, which calls into question why Guyger would check her home address when asked by dispatchers instead of simply recalling from memory.

He says they "cannot let Bo become another statistic".

Ignatius Jean said Botham planned to one day run for office back home in St. Lucia, where he was well known for organizing service projects.

They and others yesterday said they expect justice. "I want to be a Christian, '" she recalled to the dozens of people seated in the blue pews.

Amber Guyger, 30, is charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Jean, 26, on September 6. Jean's uncle told the church it was Botham's favorite color. "The apartment complex should take action", Berry said. She posted bond and remains on administrative leave.

Criminal defense lawyers CBS 11 talked to at the Dallas County Courthouse describe the Texas Rangers warrant as "weak on motive or intent". District Attorney Faith Johnson held out the possibility of more serious charges.

The district attorney's office says there's no timeline yet for bringing the case to the grand jury.
