Ben Selecman, 28, was the husband of Alan's daughter, Mattie. The young man, who was the son-in-law of country music star Alan Jackson, 59, was helping a woman onto a boat in Florida when the fatal accident happened. Selecman, a Nashville resident, had recently suffered severe traumatic head injuries in a fall.

According to a news release on Jackson's website, Ben Selecman "died unexpectedly" Wednesday in West Palm Beach.

Selecman and his wife lived in Nashville, where he had been appointed an assistant district attorney for the 20th Judicial District of Tennessee in April of lat year.

Please keep Alan's family in your thoughts and prayers today. "He will be truly missed". The couple tied the knot in October 2017.

Selecman was an East Tennessee (Knoxville) native and University of Tennessee Knoxville graduate.

At the time, Mattie wrote lovingly about the pair's meeting, period of dating, proposal, and wedding.

For their wedding, the pair went for a simple-yet-refined approach that showcased both the bride and groom's genteel Southern tastes. I finally relented, so he drove nearly 4 hours just for dinner and we've talked every day since.

A visitation for Ben's friends and family take place on Sunday while a service to honor his life will be held Monday. He was scheduled to perform in both North and SC this week and weekend, but those shows have been canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
