Adrian Peterson Scores 100th Rushing Touchdown

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson rushed 9 times for 37 yards while adding 5 catches for 30 yards versus the Washington Redskins on Sunday. A big difference. However, and I know there are still Kirk Cousins fans out there, but yesterday Redskins fans witnessed a superb veteran quarterback take full command of the offense.

Peterson now has 12,329 yards rushing.

It's early in the season to roll out quotes about mirror gazing and finger pointing, but they are additional indications of how poorly the Cardinals played. He received a game ball for his 100th touchdown.

Defensively, Washington was solid for nearly the entire game.

Smith was on target from the start against the Cardinals, completing 17 of 20 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Guys trying to make plays when it's not their play, and they're getting out of their gaps. He's still getting in synch with his line; on one occasion, he almost ran into one of the pulling linemen going through a hole. "Obviously, in Carolina and coach (offensive coordinator Mike) McCoy, we've got a lot of stuff on tape when he was a coordinator and a head coach", Gruden said. "Conditioning, I felt strong. I thought they all played extremely well". "There were some missed holes there, some missed opportunities".

Peterson, a late acquisition during the preseason, said about the convincing win: "I feel like the sky's the limit for us". In the first half, when the game was still in question, Peterson ran over and through Cardinals defenders. But he showed that he can still run with power and use his speed effectively, as he did on the third-down run on which he surpassed Brown.

The Redskins capped the scoring in the first half, driving 92 yards 10 plays in 3:11, culminating with Smith's 4-yard touchdown throw to Reed with 8 seconds left.

Peterson was part of an explosive rushing attack, as Washington gained 182 yards overall.

Thompson, who reportedly is not fully healthy after sitting out the preseason with a knee injury, had 65 yards rushing on six carries and another 63 yards on a team-high six receptions. When the Redskins needed to muscle the ball in short yardage situations, Peterson was the guy. But due to injuries to Guice and others, the Redskins turned to Peterson.

You figured that the onetime Purple Jesus was just punching a clock and picking up a paycheck with Washington. Couple Johnson's solid day with rookie Chase Edmonds' performance, and we could see an even larger reliance on the run game for the Cardinals in Week 1.
