Tropical Storm Isaac appeared "poorly organized" and was weaker on the early morning hours of Wednesday Sep.

"Some strengthening is possible during the next 12 to 24 hours, but gradual weakening should begin thereafter", the hurricane center said. The hurricane will weaken as it moves over cooler water, and is expected to be downgraded from hurricane to tropical storm status before making the transition to post-tropical storm on Sunday. Isaac has maximum sustained winds of 45mph with higher gusts, and officials at Hazard Management Cayman Islands are urging people to keep an eye on the storm's path because it could be heading our way. When Isaac reaches the west-central Caribbean Sea in a couple of days, the shear may relax somewhat and the global models suggest that there will be an increase in mid-level moisture. A turn to the west-northwest is possible early next week if Isaac survives.

Hurricane Florence warnings and watches encompassed nearly all of North and SC, with tropical storm warnings and watches reaching north to the Virginia state line. "Catastrophic flash flooding and prolonged significant river flooding are likely", the Hurricane Center said.

They also said that Isaac is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of three to five inches with isolated amounts near ten inches across the Leeward Islands late this week, with one to two inches anticipated across the Windward Islands. Based on the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, the earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds in SC is Thursday afternoon.

National Weather Service officials in Honolulu urged residents to remain careful, noting that the difference between a Category 1 hurricane and a tropical storm is just 5 miles per hour wind speed.

States of emergency were declared in the Carolinas; Virginia; Washington, DC; and Maryland, where some coastal areas are still recovering from summer storms.

Forecasters have issued no warning or watches for Barbados as Tropical Storm Isaac continues to make a steady trek across the Central Atlantic.
