'Now prove it again': Klopp demands Liverpool extend flawless start

Although Jurgen Klopp will be curious as to why his side couldn't convert more of the many chances they created, the closing five minutes of today's game very almost undone what was a landmark win for Klopp's side.

"The issue will be monitored and treated by Liverpool's medical staff at Melwood before any decision is made on whether Firmino will be able to figure in Tuesday evening's Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield".

Lamela scored a consolation goal with a lovely volley after he found himself unmarked inside the box to give Liverpool a scare in the dying minutes of the game.

Klopp, speaking to reporters (as quoted by football.london), ahead of Liverpool's return to Wembley nearly a year on, has emphasised that he never lost confidence in Lovren's ability, despite hooking him off after just half an hour.

But instead Tottenham nearly fell behind after less than 60 seconds.

When James Milner swung a cross into the Tottenham penalty area, Firmino and Sadio Mane were both allowed to make unchecked runs by Pochettino's sleepy defence.

It went to Georginio Wijnaldum, and the Dutch midfielder thumped the ball high and over the line despite Vorm's best efforts to claw the ball out as replays showed it to be over the line in the 39th minute.

Liverpool had their best chance midway through the first half as Eric Dier's backward pass was latched on to by Mohamed Salah. Unfortunately, we didn't finish the game off so that means Tottenham has the quality to strike back - which is what they did after a corner.

Tottenham failed to clear from a set-piece, and Wijnaldum reacted sharply to power a header in at the near post with what was his 55th attempt away from home during his time in England.

Liverpool briefly switched off when Lucas Moura nearly conjured an equaliser with a low shot that cannoned off a post. But Alli and Lloris are now sidelined by injury, while Kane has looked jaded in the opening weeks of the season. "Today I think the attitude was very good".

Firmino, who had been a threat the whole match, doubled the lead for Liverpool in the 54th minute for a comfortable 2-0 after the good work by Mane down the left flank.
