The United States on Thursday sanctioned two companies in China and Russian Federation for allegedly facilitating North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

The new sanctions target Russian-based Volasys Silver Star and China-based Yanbian Silverstar Network Technology Co, the US Treasury Department said on its website.

China Silver Star's North Korean CEO, Jong Song Hwa, was also designated. This article is strictly for informational purposes only.

"We're disappointed in the panel for caving to Russian pressure and making changes to what should be an independent report", Haley added, noting that it was a "dangerous precedent".

The report said Pyongyang had not stopped its nuclear and missile programs and that it was violating United Nations sanctions on exports. South Korea, a close USA ally, said in February that it would procure new patrol aircraft to cope with the emerging threat of North Korean submarine-launched missiles.

A summary of the experts' report obtained in early August by The Associated Press also said North Korea has not stopped its nuclear and missile programs. The Security Council has to agree by consensus on whether to publish the report and the United States objected to releasing the amended document.

Ms Haley also demanded the bench release the original report, which she claimed Russian Federation off-loaded oil in North Korea on a ship-to-ship transfer basis.

"This is a risky precedent and a stain on the important work of the panel", Haley said, calling for the initial version of the report - dating from early August - to be published.

The Russian news agency TASS quoted Russia's U.N. Mission as saying the proposed sanctions were "unjustified".

The Trump administration has kept up sanctions pressure on the North, even as the USA seeks to negotiate on denuclearization.

The department claims the companies are fronts for the North Korean government.

The U.N. Security Council will meet on Monday over the implementation of sanctions on North Korea at the request of Washington, the USA mission to the United Nations said.

The sanctions come at a time when the USA is maintaining pressure on the North Korean government in its negotiations to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
