We have agreed to work together on the hiring and professionalism of border patrol agents.

Authorities in Texas said Saturday that a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent has been arrested on suspicion of killing four women and abducting a fifth.

Alaniz told The Associated Press that all the women worked as prostitutes.

Juan David Ortiz, an intel supervisor for the Border Patrol, was arrested overnight on Saturday in a parking lot in Laredo, Texas.

Officials say they were alerted about the 35-year-old Ortiz after a fifth woman allegedly escaped from him and notified authorities.

Further details were sparse.

Alaniz says his office plans to charge Ortiz with four counts of murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping.

Authorities didn't disclose the victims' names or nationalities and they declined to discuss the evidence or say how the women were killed - but local media outlets have linked them to at least three bodies found in the area over the last two weeks.

The bodies of two them were discovered earlier this month along Interstate 35 in rural northwest Webb County, according to reports. Deputies detained the agent following a two-week murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of two women the agent is accused of killing, KGNS reported on Saturday. Cuellar said investigators believe heacted alone. That information belongs to the corresponding agencies who are handling the information and will make a more in depth release at the appropriate time. I also intend to speak with the General Inspector of DHS who is working on this matter, to express my concern that this is the second case this year involving a border patrol agent who has killed someone in Laredo.

His statement added: "Our sincerest condolences go out to the victims' family and friends".
