The first trailer for Captain Marvel is here

Marvel has released the first trailer for Captain Marvel, and of course it opens with Carol Danvers falling into a branch of Blockbuster. Fury tells Danvers he was "ready to hang it up until I met you today".

Check out the Captain Marvel poster below. But just before he turned to dust, Fury sent a pager message to Carol Danvers, presumably to summon her back to Earth and help sort everything out in Avengers 4. "I keep having these memories", she says, as scenes and flashbacks mix together of her in battle, in training for the Air Force, and as a little girl.

Carol Danvers gets involved in a galactic war between the Kree and the Skrulls, with the Earth caught in the middle, which the Captain Marvel trailer teases.

"Captain Marvel" is the first Marvel film to star a solo female superhero and the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following 2018's "Black Panther", "Avengers: Infinity War", and "Ant-Man and the Wasp". "I see flashes. I think I had a life here". Since then the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown exponentially and studio executives have realised that a woman leading her own comic book movie can be incredibly successful (thanks Wonder Woman!).

It also included a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson returning as Nick Fury, with both eyes still intact and his iconic eye patch is nowhere to be seen. The cast also includes Lashana Lynch and Gemma Chan, along with Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, is due to land in United Kingdom cinemas on 8 March 2019 - just two months before Avengers 4 wraps up Phase Three of the MCU. Watch the full trailer above.
